The night includes a special opening set from Heavyweight Rockaz. Amidst the vibrant tapestry of reggae beats and dub melodies in the heart of Kingston, Jamaica, two musicians came together with a shared vision—to fuse the pulsating rhythms of drum and bass with the soulful essence of reggae music. With that, Heavyweight Rockaz emerged as a band in 2013 with drummer Wayne “UngaBarunga” Thompson and bass guitarist Jason “Welsh Bass” Welsh. Their 2021 debut album Heavyweight Rockaz, which was also produced by the duo, combines themes of joy and resilience while showcasing their versatility and skillful talents within the musical arts. The band’s latest releases include “Self Love” and “Don’t Throw It All Away” featuring Qyor, Big Ras and the legendary Dean Fraser, which premiered on BBC 1xtra with David Rodigan, and has been in heavy rotation on listening platforms worldwide.
