Coffee Shop Trio at Hawks & Reed

In 2015 Los Angeles based bassist Matthew Cory had the realization that 8am was the only time his longtime friend, pianist Matt Politano was available to make music. Thus, the Coffee Shop trio was born. What started as a firm desire for musical friends to not fall out of touch transitioned to a real performance opportunity when patrons at Jones Coffee Roasters began to enthusiastically respond to live music so early in the morning. Whether it’s the freshness of timbre hitting morning ears or the lighting of the rising sun, something is uniquely refreshing about music in the A.M. The Coffee Shop trio started drawing the attention of accomplished musicians such as drum legend Steve Ferrone, sax player Bob Mintzer, guitarist Oz Noy all eager to see performance opportunities early in the morning. Mixing blues, jazz standards and the occasional Beatles or Bob Dylan song with a strong commitment to swing, catch the Coffee Shop trio this summer as they bring their unique blend of musical storytelling to venues across the country as Cory, together with Politano and drummer Jens Kuross’s help, relocates his family to Central Massachusetts.
