Marketing Intern

Winter/Spring 2022-2023 Internship (Part Time/20hrs a week), For-Credit

Description:

Hawks & Reed is the newest edition to Western Mass’ booming music scene; a cutting edge, multi-venue performance center. We present music and the arts in an accessible, compelling and hospitable manner to the benefit of the social and economic well-being of our community. We pride ourselves in hiring the brightest, most ambitious team members. Join us in growing Hawks and Reed into the premiere destination for local and national acts alike.

As the marketing intern, you are responsible for helping craft and capture the external image of Hawks and Reed’s three individual performance spaces and the events hosted within them. You will work with the in-house team on our weekly newsletter, social media, website, radio, printed materials, etc… to promote said events. These could range from concerts and dance, to theatre and literature performances, and much more.

Responsibilities:

  • Leveraging apps like Hootsuite to create and schedule social media posts, and track weekly progress on all social media platforms.
  • Tracking the progress of poster creation and distribution.
  • Create and drive awareness of our events by liaising with and building relationships with influencers in your markets such as: your college radio station, DJs, campus groups, greek organizations, college newspaper and local sites/rags to exploit all opportunities for exposure such as reviews, radio plays and interviews
  • Research & attend local and campus events that will best facilitate the promotion of our artists
  • Research appropriate online sites, forums, networks for the target market for each artist
  • Attend our shows to hand out promotional tools and get feedback
  • Maintain a local list that contains contact information for key influencers, businesses, campus organizations, radio stations, etc. that you work with during your time
  • Creating inventive and viral ad campaigns.
  • Adding all events to our website, Eventbrite page, and social media accounts, working in tandem with the graphics intern to ensure they appear professional, clean and accurate on each platform.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of analytics and how they apply to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr etc.
  • Knowledge of the performing arts scene is encouraged
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high level of computer competency.
  • Be self-motivated, organized, willing to help with any project no matter how large or small, and be able to balance multiple priorities at once. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work directly with external parties and in collaboration across internal teams.
  • Creative, flexible and task-driven.
  • Experience in Social Media, Journalism and/or Marketing strongly preferred 

A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work hard and persistently, and to be comfortable with creating content often under busy work conditions. The Marketing Intern is expected to work closely with the Development Assistant and Graphic Design Intern to produce quality media while constantly working to improve systems. This position will be offered from Dec. 15th, 2022 – June 15th 2023, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

Graphic Design Intern

As the Graphic Design Intern, you will be responsible for assisting our in-house team on a variety of projects. From social media to infographics to event flyers, your work will vary across platforms and styles. In one day, you might create a clean, minimal piece, and a wildly creative, loose event graphic. As you grow, you will be given the opportunity to own multiple pieces of dynamic projects.

Responsibilities: 

  • This intern should able to provide their own laptop with up to date Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, primarily focused on Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. (not required)
  • Working closely with in house team to translate messaging concepts into marketing materials
  • Assisting with creating clear engaging graphic communications for print and web. This will include logos, direct mail pieces, branded promotional items, website and social media graphics, media kits, email newsletters, posters, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed
  • Collaborating with the Social Media/Marketing intern and support campaigns with design solutions to create assets for social media platforms
  • Attending creative meetings and assisting in brainstorming concepts for upcoming projects/marketing
  • Posting and hanging flyers around the area, handing out invitations, updating the sandwich boards with upcoming events, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • This intern should able to provide their own laptop with up to date Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, primarily focused on Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. (not required)
  • Prior experience creating graphics and a solid grasp of design concepts 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Enthusiasm for the design process and attentiveness to multi?faceted project goals 
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Must have ability to work independently as well as in partnership with a team
  • Must be extremely organized and detail oriented 
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask multiple projects/requests 
  • Interest in music, the arts and event planning

 The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work hard and persistently, and to be comfortable with creating and organizing graphics often under stressful conditions. The Graphic Designer is expected to work closely with the in house team to produce quality media and constantly analyze and find ways to improve. This position will be offered from Dec. 15th, 2022 – June 15th 2023, with possible renewal for exceptional work.

Bartenders and Waitstaff

Job Description and Duties:

Hawks and Reed is seeking personable, energetic, and hardworking individuals to be a part of our team. We are looking for people with strong communication skills, ability to work in a fast paced environment, adaptability, creativity and a team player. Our employees should be able to complete the following:

  • Greeting customers, making beverage recommendations, upsell items, create recipes, and utilize equipment and ingredients. 
  • Provide friendly customer service by taking orders, preparing drinks, and building a rapport with clientele. 
  • Provide guests with knowledge of our products, create and provide a drink of their preference.
  • Provide a safe environment for all guests and to be aware of intoxication levels and respond appropriately if/when an incident will occur. 
  • Collecting payments and executing cash and card transactions, as well as accounting for all funds upon the nightly report. 
  • Set up and break down bar while maintaining a clean environment during operating hours.
  • Ensuring all areas are fully stocked and prepared for service.

Qualifications:

  • One year of restaurant, serving, or other hospitality experience.
  • Preferred bartending experience and knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Positive, engaging personality, and a professional appearance.
  • Basic math, computer skills, and prior experience with a POS system.

Bar Manager

Job Description and Duties:

The Bar Manager will:
  • Manage inventory (ordering, stocking, reporting, etc.)
  • Create and maintain good relationships with beer/alcohol/cannabis companies + distributors.
  • Organize and book creative events related or unrelated to our bar offerings.
  • Seek and secure beer/alcohol/cannabis sponsors for related events. 
  • Own the evolution and efficacy of the bar by noticing and implementing improvements to the bar area and related processes and systems, including brainstorming creative ways to sell more products. 
  • Hire, manage, train and schedule bartenders for all events.
  • Work alongside management and other H&R team members to execute successful events. 
  • Create new and/or custom drinks for customers or special events.
  • Manage the POS system and keep products, prices and availability up-to-date.
  • Oversee the management and sale of merchandise, keeping all items in stock and on clear display. 
  • Manage and follow up on unclosed bar tabs & lost CC’s.
  • Occasionally jump in to help at events when bartenders are sick or unavailable, or whenever necessary.
  • Take on other tasks as they come up. 

Qualifications:

  • One year of restaurant, serving, or other hospitality experience.
